Opening a Donor-Advised Fund
General Assembly Raffle Winner, Jared Kee, Shares His Experience in Opening a Donor Advised Fund with PCAF
As an agency of the Presbyterian Church in America, the PCA Foundation participates in the official proceedings of the denomination, which occur annually at the General Assembly. At this year’s General Assembly, we provided an opportunity for attendees to receive their very own donor-advised fund (DAF) with $5,000 to grant to the ministry or ministries of their choosing.
As a reminder, a donor-advised fund is a simple, flexible, and tax-efficient way to give to your favorite charities, ministries, or church. It’s a helpful tool to simplify your giving so you can increase your generosity without having to deal with the logistical hassles. And when it comes to donating complex assets, donor-advised funds are more tax-efficient.
We caught up with one of our drawing winners, Jared Kee, to learn more about his experience with the Foundation, where he granted the funds, and why.
Jared lives in Marietta, Georgia, with his wife and three daughters. In addition to owning and operating a small business, he is a ruling elder at Smyrna Presbyterian Church. He attended General Assembly as a representative of his church.
What was your response when you found out you won the drawing?
I was surprised—this is the first time in my life I’ve won a drawing, so I wasn’t expecting to win. I also felt very thankful to the PCA Foundation for their generosity and to God for His gracious provision. I immediately knew I’d like to grant the money to Smyrna Presbyterian Church in Smyrna, GA, where I serve as a ruling elder.
My wife and I are members at Smyrna Presbyterian Church and we’re excited that these funds will help further support the amazing work that God is doing there.
What was it like working with the team at PCA Foundation?
The team at PCAF has been great to work with. They’re professional, and their communication has been really clear. They’ve been very helpful getting my donor-advised fund set up and answering my questions about it. It’s been a great experience working with them.
I had considered opening a donor-advised fund a few years ago, but just never got around to it. Now that I have one, I see firsthand the many benefits. I look forward to working with the PCAF and using this tool to help fund God’s kingdom work.
